DIY Self-care Command Center
Self-care is a buzzword these days and it’s clear that we could all use a little (…or a lot). I decided to create a self-care command center in my home so that I would always have a place to go to when I was feeling stressed. It’s great to have a “quick fix” on hand to help ease anxiety when the going gets tough. Show me your own self-care command center on Instagram by tagging @dosesofcalm. I’d love to see how you’re creating space for your care at home!
Step 1. Pick out the right item to act as the command center
I chose my refurbished bar cart to act as my command center, because it has enough space to hold all of my items and I like the way that everything is on display. However, your command center does not have to be as flashy or visible as mine. Some other ideas include using your nightstand, a simple book shelf, or bathroom trolley.
Step 2. Pick out storage containers and start to organize
I had a few unused storage containers around my house and decided to compile all of my miscellaneous face masks and lotions to add to the cart. I also used an old salsa jar to contain my writing utensils and colored pencils. By creating these organizational systems, my smaller self-care products were contained and easily accessible.
Step 3. Reflect on your self-care needs and compile items
Self-care is different for everyone. When gathering items around my house to add to the cart, I reflected on which products I actually use and what items bring me the most joy and peace. My cart includes face masks and lotions, journals and sketch pads, colored pencils, a diffuser with essentials oils, a few favorite books, and an aloe plant.
Step 4. Choose a spot for your command center
Your command center should be easily accessible for days when you need self-care at a moments notice. It should not be in the way or blocking anything. I tried to organize mine in a way that was visually appealing, otherwise it would create stress, which is obviously not the goal of the this project.
